In September to October 2011 multiple kidnappings and attacks took place in the coastal resort of Lamu, Kenya, targeting foreign nationals.
No travel risk advice was issued at an early stage by any local authority or international department of foreign affairs. SAFEY advised early in September that travelers going to that general region of Africa, and client organizations should refrain from travelling to the Lamu area, due to the increased risk of attacks and kidnapping.
SAFEY has a goal to provide the right information at the right time. We aim to keep travelers safe and ultimately save lives.
